Sue Neilsen and Teresa Monroe Weekend

What a great time we had! Sue and Teresa came from Southwest Michigan for a weekend beadaway in February, 2006. They are EMT's and spent weeks helping out Hurricane Katrina victims. They had so many great stories to tell of their adventure, true heroes in my eyes.

As best friends they thought they'd like to try this beadmaking adventure together, and boy did they have fun! Lots of laughter and creative energy filled the studio as they tackled lampworking with reckless abandon.

Sue's comments on the Weekend Beadaway I just wanted to thank you for a fantastic weekend Beadaway experience! I was hoping to learn the basics of bead making, but came away with more than I ever dreamed. Not only did you teach the basics, you also taught me more advanced techniques that I will be able to use and adapt as I become more proficient at my own torch. You even took the extra time to show me what is possible on a hothead so I can return home confident that with time and practice, I can do almost anything. This weekend was all I expected and so much more! Your vast knowledge and talent at the torch was inspirational, and your patience with me (and my million questions) was greatly appreciated! Your friendly manner of teaching and great sense of humor put me immediately at ease, and time seemed to fly by so quickly!! I only wish I had an art teacher like you when I was younger! Larry, the food was fantastic! We would have been satisfied with pizza, and you cooked us wonderful mouthwatering home cooked meals! Thank You!! I came away from the weekend inspired and excited to get home and try all that I learned on my own torch! We will be back again, you haven't seen the last of us yet, this is just the beginning of a truly wonderful artistic addiction!! At first, I thought I was in over my head but I gave it a chance & made some pretty cool beads. By day two, I had confidence in what I was doing & having a blast! I'm hooked! You are an awesome teacher! I had so much fun and your cool sense of humor put me right at ease. I can't wait to get my own equipment & get to work. Sue & I are already coming up with some ideas for our own designs. Thank you for opening up your home to a couple of crazy girls. "Laverne & Shirley" look forward to seeing you again soon! You & Larry are wonderful hosts & we'll certainly be back! Larry is an awesome cook & everything was displayed so nicely. Everything was delicious! You guys are wonderful!
